Title: Teacher/Associate Teacher

Program: MAOF Child Care/Pre-School (Ventura County)

Salary: Teacher: $22.71 per hour – Associate Teacher: $21.93 per hour

Openings: 1 Position

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Full Time

Closing Date: Open until filled


GENERAL PURPOSE

To deliver direct care, guidance, and instruction to children at the MAOF Child Care and Development Centers. This includes facilitating activities aimed at promoting social, physical, and intellectual growth that stimulate learning in alignment with the developmental stages of each child.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY:

Under the direction of the Site Supervisor, assumes responsibilities for instructing and supervising groups of children, preparing and following lesson plans, assessing and documenting children’s development, and supervising teacher’s assistant and volunteer staff assigned.

  • Provide a supportive learning environment that promotes children's social, intellectual, physical, and emotional development appropriate to their age and stage.
  • Integrate educational elements into daily activities, preparing lesson plans and materials in accordance with the curriculum and contractual guidelines, covering areas such as dramatic play, science, math, art, music, language, nutrition, and motor skills.
  • Implement safety rules and supervise children's activities to ensure their safety.
  • Organize a positive daily routine, establishing realistic limits, providing both active and quiet activities, and planning smooth transitions.
  • Plan and conduct health-oriented classroom activities, involving parents in the educational process.
  • Select and utilize stimulating materials and equipment.
  • Maintain daily attendance records and prepare necessary documentation.
  • Conduct daily health checks, recognize and report illnesses, and document children's development through assessments and Individual Education Plans.
  • Hold scheduled parent conferences to discuss children's needs and progress, providing documentation as needed.
  • Maintain an inviting and orderly environment for children, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Supervise and train assigned aides, personnel, student teachers, and volunteers, scheduling activities for them.
  • Work individually with children requiring additional support for their growth.
  • Ensure children's safety at all times with reasonable precautions.
  • Observe children's health daily, documenting and reporting any concerns to the Site Supervisor.
  • Build productive relationships with parents to support their child-rearing responsibilities and actively recruit eligible families for CDES programs.
  • Serve as a mandated reporter for Child abuse.
  • Establish clear safety rules for children and adults.
  • Supervise staff during family-style meals, engaging children in discussions about food, nutrition, and community.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, workshops, and parent meetings.
  • Record meal participation and summaries. Foster children's self-awareness and self-esteem, helping them express their feelings.
  • Assist in planning parent meetings and field trips.
  • Ensure the proper care of equipment and supplies.
  • Carry out any additional activities necessary for the effective implementation of MAOF Child Care and Development Programs.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Teacher: Valid CA Teacher permit and Twenty-Four (24) semester units in Early Childhood Education/Child Development.
  • Associate Teacher: Valid CA Associate Teacher Permit and Twelve (12) semester units in Early Childhood Education/Child Development.
  • Minimum of 6 months of classroom experience in a preschool/childcare setting.
  • 3 Infant and Toddler units required, if working in infant and toddler classrooms.
  • Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Valid California driver’s license, access to a motor vehicle, and proof of auto liability insurance as required by law.
  • Regular attendance, Monday through Friday, as per the schedule provided by the site supervisor.
  • Knowledge of Principles and Practices of Teaching Young Children, along with Child and Family Community.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to understand and connect with diverse groups, including low-income families.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and providing dedicated services to children and the community.
  • Ability to assess and respond promptly to varied situations.
  • Computer literate (iPad, Tablet, desktop).
  • Complete AB 1207 California Child Care Providers: Mandated Reporter Training within 90 days of hire, renewed every two years.
  • Positive attitude with a desire to support the welfare of children and their families, showing sensitivity to diverse ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Clearances required for criminal records (FBI, DOJ, and CACI) prior to employment, with ongoing fingerprint clearance through the Justice Department.
  • Must meet State health requirements.
  • Submit to a pre-employment physical examination and Tuberculosis (TB) clearance, to be renewed every four years.
  • Supply vaccination records for influenza, pertussis, and measles upon employment. Provide a flu vaccine annually or submit a waiver.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
