Company Overview

Aton Health is a clinician-led, participant-first research company rethinking how evidence is generated in modern healthcare. Instead of treating trials as separate from care, we embed research directly into real-world clinical workflows, helping sponsors and specialty practices accelerate enrollment, improve study execution, and generate high-quality, audit-ready evidence at scale. Our model depends on operational precision and regulatory rigor. We’re building a team that takes pride in executing with accuracy and where compliance is embedded in every step of the process.

Position Summary

The Sub Investigator (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) serves as a key clinical member of the research team, supporting the Principal Investigator (PI) in the conduct of clinical trials. This individual is responsible for ensuring the safety and medical oversight of study participants, adherence to protocol requirements, and the integrity of clinical data.

The Sub Investigator will perform clinical assessments, support participant eligibility determination, oversee study-related medical procedures, and contribute to the accurate and timely documentation of clinical findings. This role requires strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to operate within a highly regulated research environment while delivering high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Oversight and Participant Safety

  • Perform clinical evaluations, including medical history review, physical examinations, and ongoing participant assessments
  • Monitor participant safety throughout the study, including identification and documentation of adverse events (AEs) and serious adverse events (SAEs)
  • Provide medical oversight during study visits and ensure appropriate clinical decision-making
  • Escalate clinical concerns to the Principal Investigator as needed

Study Conduct and Protocol Execution

  • Support the PI in ensuring all study activities are conducted in accordance with the protocol, GCP, and regulatory requirements
  • Assess and confirm participant eligibility based on protocol criteria
  • Perform study-related procedures within scope of licensure (e.g., physical exams, lab review, medication management as applicable)
  • Collaborate with Clinical Research Coordinators to ensure accurate and timely execution of study visits

Documentation and Data Quality

  • Ensure accurate, complete, and timely documentation of all clinical findings in source documents and EDC systems
  • Review and sign off on clinical data as required
  • Support query resolution and data clarification requests from sponsors or CROs
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation at all times

Participant Engagement and Care

  • Serve as a clinical resource for study participants, addressing questions and concerns related to their care and study participation
  • Ensure informed consent is appropriately obtained and documented (as delegated)

Quality and Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with IRB-approved protocols, HIPAA, FDA regulations, and ICH-GCP guidelines
  • Participate in monitoring visits, audits, and inspections as needed
  • Support quality assurance activities and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain appropriate licensure, certifications, and training required for study conduct

Qualifications

Required

  • Current, active licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA)
  • Graduate of an accredited NP or PA program
  • 2+ years of clinical experience in a healthcare setting
  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical documentation standards

Preferred

  • Prior experience in clinical research or as a Sub Investigator
  • Familiarity with GCP, FDA regulations, and clinical trial processes
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) and electronic data capture (EDC) systems
  • Experience in specialty areas relevant to active or planned studies

Competencies

  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making ability
  • High attention to detail and commitment to data integrity
  • Ability to balance patient care with protocol adherence
  • Effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Professionalism and confidence in interacting with participants, sponsors, and site staff
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Integrity and commitment to ethical research practices
