Location: California Residency Required – Remote Hybrid
Salary: $130,000.00 - $160,000.00 DOE + Bonuses

Design the infrastructure that moves California.

You’ve built a strong foundation in civil engineering. Now you’re ready for bigger projects, stronger mentorship, and a career that keeps growing.

At JMA, you’ll work on meaningful rail and transit infrastructure projects across California while expanding your expertise alongside experienced transportation engineers. Projects include rail corridors, transit stations, maintenance facilities, and multimodal transportation improvements.

Whether your background is in transportation, utilities, or land development, we’re looking for motivated engineers who want ownership, technical growth, and long-term career development.

If you’re curious about transportation engineering and want to work on meaningful projects with a collaborative, technically strong team — you’ll fit right in with us.

The Role

As a Civil Engineer at JMA, you’ll lead and support the design of high‑profile transportation projects across California. Your work will focus on transportation design—from alignments and profiles to grading, drainage, utilities, and full PA&ED and PS&E packages.

You’ll work hands‑on with tools like Civil 3D and OpenRoads, collaborate closely with clients and agencies, and help deliver projects that shape the future of transit and rail.

Why Engineers Choose JMA

  • Meaningful Transportation Projects - Work on rail and transit infrastructure that improves mobility across California.
  • Real Career Growth - We invest in developing engineers through mentorship, technical exposure, and leadership opportunities.
  • Collaborative Team Environment - Small design teams where your contributions matter and experienced engineers are accessible.
  • Hybrid Remote Flexibility - Work remotely while staying connected to a supportive engineering team.

Competitive Compensation & Benefits

  • Paid overtime
  • Performance bonuses
  • Strong base salary based on experience and skill level
  • Life, short‑ and long‑term disability insurance
  • 401(k) with significant employer contribution
  • 11 paid holidays plus an annual holiday shutdown
  • PTO starting at 2.5 weeks, increasing to 4 weeks with tenure
  • Additional recognition perks, including staff events and milestone celebrations
  • 100% company‑paid medical, dental, and vision (spouse & dependent coverage paid at 100% at 3 years)

What You’ll Do

  • Design railroad and transit infrastructure from planning through construction
  • Prepare construction drawings, specifications, and technical reports
  • Execute precise grading and drainage designs tailored to project needs
  • Design storm drain, sewer, water, and dry utility systems
  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, going beyond basic methods.
  • Coordinate utilities and secure permits with public agencies
  • Lead, organize, and evaluate project staff, fostering learning and quality
  • Collaborate with clients and subconsultants throughout the project lifecycle

What You Bring

  • California PE license (Civil)
  • 5+ years of civil engineering experience (3+ years on U.S. projects)
  • Strong experience with OpenRoads and/or Civil 3D
  • Solid understanding of transportation and civil design standards

  • Looking for long-term career growth, not just another job
